UNSOLVED CRIMES January 12, 2010
On Wednesday January 6th around 5pm four vehicles were broken into in the outer parking lots surrounding Woodgrove Mall. In each case a side window was smashed and vehicles entered. Stolen items include an orange and grey wet suit valued at $1000, hand grinder and drill power tools, and loose change. The public is urged to leave nothing of value inside their vehicles - even coins or CD’s can result in a smashed window. Police File 2010 - 581
During the early morning hours of Thursday January 6th, a break, enter and theft occurred at the BC Hydro substation on 10th Street in Nanaimo. Culprits broke into a small office trailer on the site after extensive efforts to gain entry. The small suspect then crawled through an 8" by 14" window and stole a Panasonic Lap top, 17" monitor and digital camera. Police File 2010- 626
On Monday December 28th at 2:45am a cab driver for Ace Taxi was robbed of a sum of money following picking up 3 people from 544 5th Street and dropping them off at Pine and Victoria Streets. The suspect male was approximately 30 years old wearing a pea jacket and a white base ball cap. He grabbed the cab driver’s money pouch upon leaving the cab and ran off down the street. A cashbox was stolen by thieves from the Payless Gas Station on Bowen Road. The box was for operation of the car wash and was pried off the wall of the building. Cash box is 16" x 10" x 10" and is grey in colour and contained an unknown amount of coins. Police file 2010-280
On Thursday January 7th at 8:25am a Mazda Pickup truck parked at 597 Rosehill had its side window smashed and a backpack containing a Bose speaker and IPOD were stolen.Police File 2010-631
Overnight on Christmas eve 250 feet of cable was stolen from a construction site in the 5000 block of Rutherford Road. Thieves disconnected the power to the cable then pulled it from the ground. Also taken from site were two piles of 2X6 and 2X10 lumber. Total loss from the site is nearly $2000. Police file 2009-38034
There has been a rash of minor vandalism and mischief to property up and down Sarum Rise Way and Poet's Trail Drive/ Beringer Cr (the area known as "Hawthorn" above 2nd and Wakesiah). The suspects damaged Christmas lights during the holidays, and continue to damage garbage cans, construction site materials and hedges. They are believed to be 2-3 males between 18-25 yrs of age and this has been happening between 10:30pm and 3am. Police file # 2009-39999
On Monday January 11th a Break, Enter and Theft occurred at a basement suite in the 200 block of Tahoe Avenue around 7pm. Culprits lifted a patio door off its tracks and accessed the home, ransacking the suite , and stealing cash from a child’s savings jar. The public is encouraged to secure all doors and windows, particularly patio doors. Police file 2010-1042
On Sunday January 10th at 3:30pm an individual going through the till area at Quality Foods Harewood mistakenly left his wallet at the cashier’s counter. A 5'6" male , approx 140lbs, with dark scruffy hair picked up the wallet, and stole ID, and $180 cash. Police File #2010-960
At Georgia Avenue Elementary School overnight on Sunday January 9th the school was the subject of a break, enter and theft. Culpits entered the school by damaging an outer door and stole food from the kitchen area of the school. Police File #2010-936
